PERSONAL.
The death occjrred, at Papawai, y°aterdav, of Mr] Frank G. Tully, an - o*settler. The deceased was fifty years of age. The Hon. Hamilton Gilmer, M.L.C., and Messrs 0. McCardle and A. McGuire, directors of Brewery Company, were on a business visit to Masterton, yesterday. The resignations of Miss J. Flyger (teacher at Mangatiti) and Miss V. Nixon (assistant teacher at Hainua) have been accepted by the Wellington Education Board. At the conclusion of the annual business meeting in connection with the Masterton Methodist Church Choir, on Thursday evening, Mr S. H. Ralph, conductor of the choir, was presented by the Rev. J. N. Buttle, on behalf of the Church trustees, with a silver-plated salver, suitably inscribed, in recognition of his past services. Mr Ralph suitably returned for the gift. Mr 0. McCardle, manager lor Staples and Co., Wellington, who paid a business visit to Masterton, yesterday, is now lying in a private hospital in a serious condition. While at the Empire Hotel in the afternoon, Mr McCardle, who suffers from heart trouble, and is subject to fits, suddenly fainted. He was taken in a stretcher to the Club Hotel, where he was staying, and Dr. Cowie was immediately summoned. About half-an-hour later Mr McCardle became unconscious, and commenced to breathe very heavily. His condition was s'> serious that it was deemed advisable to have him taken to a private hospital. Ha was still unconscious at a late hour last evening, and little hope was held out for his recovery.
