TINNED MEAT CONTRACTS.
COMPLAINT BY VICTORIAN AGENT-GENERAL. Received January 26, 4.32 p.m. LONDON, January 25. The Hon. J. W. Taverner, AgentGeneral for Victoria, interviewed Mr R. B. Haldane, Secretary of War, and complained df the alterations of the War Office specifications for the tinned meat contracts, closing on January 13th, permitting the use of cheaper tins. This had placed the Victorian tenderers at a disadvan-, tage as compared with Americans. Mr Haldane' regretted that a mistake had been made, and promised that Australia would be given ample notice of alterations in specifications in future. . f ■ ■ , ' •
