Concerning the match between the New Zealand team and Halifax, the London "Telegraph" says:— "The prevailing conditions told heavily against the New Zealanders. Considering the heavy going play was open and attractive, Halifax in particular passing and running well. A movement soon after the commence-' nient of piny by the Home backs resulted in Eccles scorii'g. This was followed by Messenger kicking a penalty goal. Thomas obtained a second try for the Yorkshire team, and although Messenger landed another penalty goal Halifax , led by six to four at half-time. Throughout the second half Halifax more than held their own, and another try vva3 put on. The Home, team were dangerous on many occasions, and were only prevented from scoring by the resoluto tackling of the 'All Blacks."' The London "Chronicle" says: "On meeting Halifax the New ZeaIhihljjv. faced one of the stillest tasks of the tour. The game was one of the bast contested of the series played, and being beaten was no disgrace to the 'All-Blacks.' The victory by three tries to two goals indicates not only the' superiority of the winning side in attack, but also in defence." The "Manchester Guardian" says: —"lt is evident that the wetched weather and the sodden state of the grounds have lately brought the New Zealanders more level with the Northern Union Clubs. The victory was the result of brilliant play, and the speed of the wing men."
