The Borough Council has done the right thing in deciding to remove the carbonising plant of the gas works to a site near the railway station. The requisite site has not been procured, but it is understood that the Council has a suitabls one in view. As the manager points out in hii report, Masterton is increasing in population, and the gas department's business is increasing in greater ratio than the 15 per ceixt. allowed for by him, so that it becomes a matter of business economy to shift the plant without, unnecessary delay to a site which will save the cartage of coal to earbonisers located at a great distance from the railway station. The longer the change of site i 3 delayed the greater will be the cos!; of coal cartage,, with the steadily increasing output of gas. The manager's report, which is published! in. another column,, is a clear exposition of the position, and the Council has acted wisely in promptly adopting it.
