WELLINGTON RACES. CUP WON BY MOLOCH. ]'.Y TKliKlilUl'H riIESH ASSOCIATION - . WELLINGTON, January 18. The Wellington Racinir Club's Summer meeting opened in fine weather. There was a good attendance. The Tongariro Hack Handicap, the last event but one, was started before time, and had to be re-run. The first race was won by Suttee, who was beaten in the run-off by Culmination.
The sum of £17,373 was passed through the totalisator, against £25,255 last year. Fifty-two bookmakers were licensed—twenty inside and thirty-two outside. Results:— Trentham Handicap Welter, of 100 sovs; 7 furlongs.—Red Rain, 9.0, 1; Gold Thread 9.0, 2; Playmate, 8.2, S Also started—Martyrium, Moscow, Truthful, Sen Sim, Ancyle, Motukawa. Won by a length and a half. Ti-ne, lmin 29 2-sth sec. . Anniversarv Handicap, of 150sovs; 1 mile.—San Julie, 7.5, 1; Kairoma, 7.11, 2; Fireiron, 7.12, 3. Also started—William, Mellwood.Uenuku, Vardo, Prism. Won by a nose. Ruapehu Hack Handicap, of 120 sovs; 6 furlongs.—Mon Amie, 7.5,1; Miss Vera, 7.0, 2; Rangipapa, 8.3, Murray Handicap, of 200sovs; 4 furlongs.—Armlet, 9.6, 1; Aboriginal, 8.7, 2; Sir Artegal, 8.0, 3. Al so started—Gravitation, KautukuChantress, Berengaria, Paione, Volt, gang. Won easily by two lengths.Tirne, 48 4-sth sec. WELLINGTON CUP, of 750sovs; I?; mile. Here Moloch challenged Gold Crest and won easily bv two lengths. The Rand was a good third. Time, 2min 33 4-sth sec.
