DIED UNDER CHLOROFORM.
INQUEST ON A CHILD. BY TELEGRAPH —mESS ASSOCIATION'. ASHBURTON, January 18. An inquest was held this afternoon touching the death of May Gladys Williams, aged thirteen, who died on the 17th instant whilst undergoing an operation for enlarged tonsils.
The medical evidence was to the effect that the operation was absolutely necessary; that a very small dose of chloroform had been administered ; that the operation was almost performed while the patient; was only partially under influence of the anaesthetic, and that then she suddenly assumed a bad colour and collapsed. Attempts at resuscitation continued for an hour and a-half resulfclessly. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony, adding that they were satisfied that all precautions had been taken.
