WELCOME RAIN.
BY TELSGKAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ASHBURTON, January 16. A welcome change in the weather occurred this afternoon, when showers; began to fall, and by seven o'clock heavy rain set in with every prospect of continuing overnight at least. To all appearances the fall is general throughout the country, and thoqgh it cannot now help the crops, feed and pasture and root crops will be greatly benefited, and it is expected that* store sheep will advance in price immediately.
HEAVY RAIN AT OAMARU
OAMARU, January ,16. Rain commenced to fall heavily at 4 p.m.,.t0-day, and continued till 8, with the prospect of a further fall. . The root crops and pasteurs will be benefited, but the cereal crops without rain, promise good yields—in most parts of the districts above the average. The wheat crops, with good weather, will be considerably above the average, and the oat crops are good.
