BOY SCALDED TO DEATH

BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, January 15. A liUle boy, named John Jas v Foster, two and a-half years of age, the only son of Mr Edmund J. Foster, Hawkesbury Street, Addington, was taken to the hospital on Sunday suffering *from severe scalds, caused by falling into a • bath of boiling water. The child died the following day, and at the inquest, yesterday, a verdict was returned that death was caused by the shock from scalding. From the evidence, it appeared that the father had filled the tub with boiling water, preparatory to having a bath, and left the room for a few minutes. Qn his return, just as he got to the door,- he saw the child fall into the tub. He immediately took him out and rubbed flour all over him,-and had him conveyed to the hospital, where the little sufferer died on Monday. FATAL TRAP ACCIDENT. CHRISTCHURCH, January 15. William Robertson died yesterday at the hospital, as the result of injuries received in a trap accident at Omihi, near Amberley. Robertson was admitted to the institution on January Ist in an unconscious condition, and never regained consciousness. BODY FOUND. DUNEDIN, January 15. The body of John Taiaroa, who was drowned in the lower harbour on New Year's Eve, was found to-day on the Karitane Beach, ten miles north of the scene of the fatality. TREE FALLS ON A CONSTABLE. HIS CONDITION CRITICAL. NEW PLYMOUTH, January 15. The "Daily News" correspbndent at Midhurst reported to-night that Constable Bleasel, of Stratford, while riding down Stanley road, was . struck by a falling [tree which had burned through and fell across the road. His condition is critical. No further particulars are available.
