MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yes'erday afternoon. There were present:—Crs W. J. Welch (chairman), W. Harris, C. E. CockburnHood, Jno. Morris, J. Colquhoun, A. Murray, R. F. Beetham, H. 0. Toogood and C. C. Kebbell. Mr J. Blatchfora waited upon the Council in reference to the willows growing in the Kopuaranga stream at his property at Opaki, and asked the Council to serve other propertyowners with notices to clear the willows from their side of the stream. On thd motion of Cr Toogood, it was decided to comply with the request. Mr E. J. Kember wrote asking to be relieved of two contracts on Upper Opaki road and Opaki loop line. The chairman said it was six weeks since the contracts were accepted, and the Council should* hesitate before establishing a precedent such as was asked. It was resolved not to release Mr Kember from his contract. The Treasury notified the remittance of £BOO of the Mastertur.-East Coast road loan. Mr J. JRobieson wrote asking the Council to remove the gates connecting his boundary and the Masterton - Gladstone road, there being no further use for them, and in addition they constituted a danger to travellers on the road. It was de- > cided that t the owners be given three months notice to remove the gates. Mr Edward Leo wrote again drawing the attention of the Council to the nuisance caused by trees overhanging the footpaths at Lansdowne, 1 which the writer considered was annoying to pedestrians. I After discussion it was decided to comply with the request to have them "removed. I Mr J. Greenbank wrote asking for authority to lay water-pipes across the Masterton-Waimata and Blairogie-East Coast roads to enable j , him to erect .water troughs for publicconvenience. On the motion of Cr Toogood the - request was granted. Mr G. Fellingham wrote declining tha position of trustee on the Langdale Cemetery Trust. Cr Toogood and the Clerk wore authorised to fill the vacancy. The District Road Engineer wrote stating that a deviation to secure a better grade on a portion of the Blairlogie-Holmwood road would be a fair charge on the £I,OOO loan for metall'ng this road. The Chief Engineer of Roads forwarded an authority to expend £IOO on the Holmwuod-Kaiwhata road, £IOO on the Alfredton-Tinui roar l , £2OO (£ for £) on Alfredton-Tinti bridge and £SOO (£ for £) on Alfredton -Weber road. The Commissioner of Crown Lands forwarded a list of fully paid-up thirds, and requested the Council to make arrangements for their expenditure. It was resolved that the members of the various ridings furnish a report as to the best means to expend the thirds in their respective ridings. The Akitio County Council wrote agreeing to subsidise Mr Hansen's ..thirds to [the extent of £lO for improving the road to his property. ' Mr John Bou«tead wrote urging the Council to erect a Dawson's suspension bridge over the Ihuraua stream on the Moroa road. | Cr Murray moved that as soon as the road is legalised the Council lake , steps to have a suitable bridge | expected. Thi3 was seconded by Cr Kebbell, and carried. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committea met in the morning. There were present:—Crs Kebbell (in the chair), Harris, Morris and Murray. j The Treasurer reported as follows: - —Bank General Account (dr.) £3,090 5s 4d, Local Bodies Loans Account (cr.) £1,945 17s lOd, accounts dr. balance £139 4s 6d, receipts since December 10th £1,360 4s 3d. Accounts amounting to £1,299 17s Id were passed for payment. An application from the poundkeeper, Mr C. 11. Savage, for a refund of £1 10s loss on sale of hordes at the pound was further postponed pending supply of particulars asked for.
