BY TELEGRAPH —rKESS ASSOCIATION. WHANGAREI, January 11. The Whangarei summer meeting opened yesterday in magnificent weather. Results:— FIRST DAY. Railway Handicap—Lochbuhie 1, Jolly Tar'2. Only starters. Time, lmin 17sec. Hurdles—Catch-'em 1. The other starters, Lady Lanta, Quebec, both fell, leaving Catch-'em to finish as above. Lady Lanta rolled o i her jockey (Pope) fracturing his collarbone. Cup—Sweet Alice 1, Portlight 2, Lady Regel 3. Also started—Gilead, Franklyn. Won by half a length. Kensington Stakes —Hopscotch 1, Discoverer 2, Rotoiti 3. Also started—Ben Blair, Tuneha, Soultstone. Won by half a length. Settlers' Handicap—Luscombe 1, Ben Blair 2, Callelris 3. Also started—Franklyn, Lady Ellen. Won easily by two lengths. Publican's Purse— Portlight 1, ManapourJ 2.. Only starters. Won by two lengths. Flying Handicap—Hopscotch and Discoverer dead heat 1, Lochbuhie 3. Also started—-Viyia. A great finish. SECOND DAY. Tradesmen's Plats.—Sweet Alice 1, Tunewha 2, Franklyn 3. Only starters. Won by a lergth. Hurdles—Quebec 1, Whangarei 2. Catch-'em, the only other starter, ran off. An inquiry intr. the running of Catch'-ern was held by the stewards, who disqualified the jockey (Horn) for eleven months, and the horse for twelve months. The owner .as exonerated. After the race Neary, the rider of Whangarei, assaulted Rayner, the winning jockey, and was suspended during the stewards' pleasure. Summer Handicap— Rotoiti 1, Jolly Tar 2, Discoverer 3. Only starters. Won by a length. Park Handicap—Portlight 1, Sweet Alice 2, Lochbuhie 3. Also started —Sir Gilead, Franklyn. Won by half a lengLh. * , Marsden Stakes.—Manapouri 1, Tunewha 2, Ben Blair 3. t Only starters. Won by a neck. Hack Handicap—Bushman 1, Lady Ellen 2, Sapper 3.
