(By'.Cover-Point). HENDERSON CUP. STAR v. CARLTuN. f The Star and Carlton teams.met on the Park Oval, yesterday afternoon, in a Henderson Cup match. Dwyer won the toss from Waters, and sent in L. Richards and P. Richards to represent the Stars. Both batsmen soon settled down to work, and the score quickly mounted up. Thirtynine was on the board before a separation was effected, L. Richards being clean bowled by Waters after compiling 20. His score included four 4's. Thynne joined F. Richards, but at 40 Voyce smartly snapped up the latter behind the wickets. The outgoing batsman played good cricket for his runs, though he gave one chance. Truscott followed, but at 49 Owen found the new-comer's weak spot. Madsen joined Thynne, and the •runs continued to come. At 61 N. Boyd disposed of Thynne with a good catch off Allen. Thyrtne hit nicely for his 19 runs, but he gave two chances. Beard joined Madsen, and the pair produced the best partnership of the day. Despite repeated changes of bowling both batsmen played confidently, and the board showed 110 before Moss bowled Madsen with the best ball of the day. The outgoing batsmen had compiled 21 by careful play. He, too, gave a chance. Isaacs and Beard carried the score to 130,'. and then Allen sent Beard to the pavilion by catching him off his own bowling. Beard played a fine innings for 38, his score including some very pretty strokes. He gave a cbuple'of chances while making his mns. Six runs later Isaacs retired with ten to his credit, and the remaining batsmen carried the score to 149. 'McLean was absent. Moss bowled well for Carlton, and took 4 wickets for 32. The ground fielding of Carlton was capital, but iheir weakness was in catching. Voyce gave a capital display of wicket-keeping. Carlton opened with Waters and F. Welch. Waters quicklyl opened his shoulders, and scored 14 off Isaacs in one over, including a hit for six. When 29 had been reached Beard clean bowled Waters, who had made 21 by clean hitting. Boyd was bowled first ball by Beard. Swan and F. Welch took the score to 39, and then F. Richards caught the latter off McLean. Moss and Swan made a useful stand, and both played splendid cricket. Swan was particularly vigorous, and hit three 4's in succession off Beard. At 66 Swan was caught out by L. Richards off Beard from a weak stroke—th«j only one he played. Swan's innings was both vigorous and attractive, and he played well all round the wicket. A. Hoar and Mosa were associated till 79 was up, and then Hoar was caught by Dwyer off Edwards. Voyce, who joined Mcs;, was run out at 81, after making 2. Allen was out first ball, and Wickens joined Moss. The score was taken to i 105 before Townsend caught Moss off Isaacs. Moss played a capital innings for 24, and made some very nice strokes. Wickens left without any addition to the score. He had ten runs to h!s credit. Owen and Roberts, the last men, livened things up, and ran for every thine. At 123 Dwyer bowled Owen, who had made 8. Roberts was not out with six to his credit. Beard and Dwyer both bowled well for the Stars. At the call of time the Stars had lost two wickets for 22 in their second innings. Scores: —
