MASTERTON HOSPITAL.
ELECTION OF TWO TRUSTEES. MR HOGG DECLINES NOMINATION. The annual statutory meeting of subscribers to the Masterton Hospital was held yesterday morning in the Borough Council Chambers for the purpose df electing two trustees. Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., chairman of the trustees, presided, and there were about thirty subscribers present. In opening the meeting, the Chairman said he would not offer himself for re-election. 'He regretted leaving the Trust, as he had always worked most satisfactorily with its. members, but he found <■ that he could notsdo justice to the management of the hospital without neglecting his other important duties. When he first became a member of the Trust matters had been somewhat unsatisfactory, but they had since improved. A few years agq the hospilal possessed one visiting doctor with whom the other medical men in Masterton refused toact, the, nursing staff was in a state of unrest, and the Inspector's reports N were not by any means flattering. Now they possessed a hosptialof which Masterton and the district might feel proud. The building was ready for occupation, there was a capable matron and ah efficient nursing staff, and a visiting" medical staff, with an honorary staff ready to assist. A good deal oh money had been spent, but thanks to a careful and painstaking secretary aid treasurer, there was no debt to face, nor was the Trust in any financial trouble. The manner in which' the institution was supported showed that it was popular, and the demands that were made for admission showed that it was valued by the community. He was pleased to know that there were a number of citizens who were ready to take their turn in the management of the institution, and though he would not in future be a member of the Trust, he would, continue to render what assistance he could to the hospital. . Nominations were then called for and the following were received:—Mr R. Brown, nominated by Messrs W. M. Easthope and J. Caselberg; Mr H. J. O'Leary, nominated by Messrs G E. A. Hood and P. Smith; Mr J. H. Pauling, nominated by Messrs G. E. A. Hood and H. J. O'Leary. A ballot was taken, with the following result: —Mr Brown 23 votes, Mr O'Leary 18 votes, and, Mr Pauling 6 votes. Messrs, Brown and O'Leary were declared duly elected, and after they i had been congratulated by the Chair- | man upon their election, and had briefly returned thanks, the meeting closed. ' ' '
