NEWCASTLE LABOUR TROUBLES. WHARF LABOURERS' STRIKE. SYDNEY LABOURERS SYMPATHETIC. Received January a, 10.39 a.m. SYDNEY, January 9. A mass meeting of wharf labourers decided, in sympathy with the Newcastle wharf labourers, not to handle the vessels belonging to the North Coast Company, the Newcastle Company, or the Alliwara Company. The dispute is over rates, and the question of the reinstatements of certain men on the wharves. THE COALMINERS' STRIKE. MASS MEETING OF MINERS. NOT IN A POSITION TO FIGHT. Received January 9, 10.3 a.m. SYDNEY, January 9. At a mass meeting of the Teralba miners last night, Mr M'WiJliams, acting - president of the federation, plainly told the men that the federation was simply not in a position to fight just now. It is not in the position it was in a couple of months ago. If it were, the whole coal trade of New South Wales might soon be dislocated. The result of the meeting would indicate that the court will now continue its career unchecked. TERALBA COLLIERIES RESUME WORK. Received January 9, 10.8 p.m. SYDNEY.AJanuary 9. , All the Teralba collieries are working to-day. Received January 10,1 a.m. SYDNEY, January 9. No unionist wharf labourers offered themselves at the Newcastle or Illawarra Company's wharves torday. The work of loading and discharging is being done by the crews of vessels, and free labourers. The North Coast Company is practically'unaffected, as- they haVe employed non-unionists for some time. The position at the Newcastle wharves is unaltered. The steamer Queen Helena, from Honolulu, while passing the small island of Sophia, supposed to be uninhabited, saw four mer. on the beach. The steamer hove to for some hours, and made signals, but no response was made. She then proceeded on her voyage.
