OLD-AGE PENSIONS.
A LABOUR PROPOSAL; TAXING THE RICH. Received January 9, 8.15 a.m. LONDON, January 8. Mr J. D. Shackleton, M.P., owing to pressure of other duties, declines re-election to the chairmanship of the Parliamentary Labour Party. Mr Shacklfcton, addressing his constituents, advocated the raising of seventeen and a half millions yearly from all those whose incomes are over £5,000 yearly towards old-age pensions of 5s weekly. He declared that those at the top could stand a little bit off without running short.
