MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Mauriceville Council was held on Saturday last. There were presenters F. W. H. Kummer, (chairman). • J. F. Heckler, HJJ. Dagg, and E, J. Perry. An apology for absence was received from Cr Wall. The Chief Inspector of Factories 1 wrote re the weekly half-holiday. A letter was received from Dr. Frengley regarding Sanitary the Inspector continuing to act until a fresh arrangement is made. Dr. Cook notified' a case of scarlet fever. ■ Mr F. F. Hurley wrote pointing out that'one end of Youngson's bridge is lower'than the other, and therefore dangerous to cross in wet weather. He requested that the surface of the bridge be made level.—The chairman said the necessary alteration could be effected at a small expense-~Cr Heck,ler wished to examine the bridge before anything was done. —It was finally resolved to defer further consideration of the matter until next meeting. The District Road Engineer asked to be informed whether- the Council intended to expend the £l5O (£ for £) grant for Baker Road.—lt was decided that as the settlers chiefly interested are not disposed to provide the subsidy necessary to get the grant, the Council regrets that it cannot take advantage of'the aid offered by the Government., —It was suggested that the grant should be offered to the Master ton County tJoUncli, who have control of part of thexoad, / Mr Jorgen Nielsen attended the meeting and requested that a defec-., tive culvert near his house be attended to. At present it does not carry the whole of the storm water, the road and his garden being flooded during heavy rains. It was suggested that it might be advisable to substitute a platform bridge for the present large [culvert.— After further discussion it was resolved that the Overseer meet Mr Nielsen on the ground and discuss the matter, and report to the next meeting of the Council. I*, was resolved to renew C. Franzen's maintenance contracts for another year. Accounts amounting to £153 Os 4d were passed for payment. The next meeting of the Council Will be heia on the 25th inst.
