Damage to Crops in Nelson.

BUSH FIRES. NELSON, January 6. -High southerly winds, coupled with dry weather, is doing damage to the crops and fruit. Rain is badly wanted. The hop crop is likely to be light, and there are at least a hundred acres less in cultivation. Bush fires have done considerable damage to the standing bush crops at Belgrove, Wakefield, and the Eightyeight Valley. Several shops, including ironmongers', painters', and others, began the New Year by closing on Saturday afternoons instead of Wednesday.
