NEGOTIATIONS FOR ITS SALE. Received January 6, 9.40 a.m. LONDON, January 5. The Observer reports that negotiations are in progress to sell "The Times" to the proprietors of several magazines and newspapers. THE WALTER FAMILY RETAINS CONTROL. Received January 6, 9.38 p.m. LONDON, January 6. Mr A. F. Walter, one of the directors, denies that the direction of "The Times" will pass out the Walter family. "The Chronicle" states that Lord Northcliffe, Sir G. Newnes and Mr C. A. Pearson declare that the report that "The Times" will be sbld to the proprietors of several magazines and newspapers does not refer to them.
