WELLINGTON SHEEPSKIN AND HIDE SALES.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as under:—At our sale, on Friday, we offered and sold a fair-sized catalogue of skins and hides. There was a good attendance of buyers, and prices for skins were well up to London equivalent. Very few full-woolled skins of good quality are now coming in forward, the bulk of the offerings being mixed lots of poorly saved station skins and bare pelts from butchers. The demand for hides was brisk, but values obtained were a little lower than last sale. Tallow suffered a drop of about Is per cwt. We quote —Sheepskir s—Fine crossbred and ha^fbred, 7d to TJd.perlb; medium crossbred, sfd to 6|d per lb; coarse crossbred, s£d to 6Jd per lb; dead, 3Jd to sd; broken and inferior, l|d to 4|d per lb; lambs, 4Jd to 5d per lb;green pelts, lOd to Is 2d each; green lambs. Is to Is 9d each. Hides —Ox, light, 4d to 4§d per lb; cow, medium, 3|d to 3|d per lb; damaged hides, 2£d to 3£d per lb; calf, sound, 5d to 6d per lb; calf, damaged, Id to 3Ad per lb. Tallow—Medium, mixed, casks to 23s 6d per cwt.; tins and odd packages, to 19s 6d. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report i—'We held our usual sale of skins and hides at Wellington, on Friday, when we submitted a catalogue of skins and wool in bags to the usual number of buyers. Prices were about on a par with last sale. Prices realised were as follow Sheepskins—Fine crossbred, 7£d; medium crossbred, 6d to 6£d; dead, 4fd to 5Jd; dead and broken, 4£d to sgd; inferior, 2|d to 3|d; dead hoggets, 6£d; crossbred half-wools, s£d; lambs, 3£d to sd. Wool (in bags) Crossbred, 6d per lb; dead, fid to 6£d; bellies and pieces, 3dto4|d; locks, to 2Jd. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., offered 3,000 skins, 475 hide 5 ? and calfskins, and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. There was a good attendance of buyers. Wool is being held for sale on 17th January. Skins—The market remains stationary. There was fair competition at last sale rates. We quote: Merinos 6d to 7d, fine crossbreds 6£d to 7£d, coarse crossbreds 6,1 d to 6£d, dead skins 4fd to 5Jd, dead hoggets 4d to sd, dry pells 3d to 3fd, green skins 5s to 5s 6d, green lambs Is to Is 9d, green pelts. Is to Is 6d. Tallow—Easier. Parcels in shipping order £24. Tins £ls to £2O; rough fat £l3. Horsehair Is to Is 4d per lb. Horns 6s to 18s 9d per hundred. Cowtuils Is to Is 4d per dozen. Hides—Hides were a halfpenny lower. We quote: Ox hides (extra heavy) s£d *o sgd, ox hides (601 bs to 70lbs) 5Jd to sj{d, o:: hides (501bs to 591 bs) 4Jd to 4gd, cow hides 3£d to 4Jd, calf skins (best) sti to s£d, calf skins (cut and slipov) 2d to 3&d, hides (cut and slippy) 2d to 3d, stag hides 2Jd to 3Jd, bull hidet2Jd to 3|d. Our next sale will be held on the 31st January, 190 S. There will be no sale on the'l7th January, as a large wool sale falls on that date.
