BIRTHS AND DEATHS IN SYDNEY. Received January 3. 9.40 a.m. SYDNEY, January 3. The births and deaths in the metropolitan area during the past year were each over 5 per cent, higher than the average for the previous five years. The increase in deaths was due chiefly to epidemics whoopingcough and measles. QUEENSLAND REVENUE. BRISBANE, January 3. The revenue for the half-year totalled £2,243,000, an increase of £123,528. WESTERN AUSTRALIAN GOLD YIELD. PERTH, January 3. The gold yield f ov the year was 1,697,553 ounces, 96.993 ounces below the previous year. TASM.-VNIAN REVENUE. HOB ART, January 3. The revenue for the half-year was £506,273, an increase of £55,000. SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S RAILWAYS. ADELAIDE, January 3. The railway revenue for the halfyear increased by £150,000.
