WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB.
SECOND DAY. (Special Reporter.) The Wairarapa Racing Club concluded its summer meeting, yesterday, in ideal weather. The attendance was large, but not so great as on the opening day. The track was very hard, and the, times registered throughout were very fast. The racing all through was of a high order. Only one accident, and that only a slight one, occurred during the day. W. Andrews, the rider of Blue Bell in the Ruamahanga Hack Handicap, came off at the entrance to the straight owing to bis saddle slipping. He was carried into the casualty room, and later on in the day, after treatment, he was able to again get .about. Speculation was brisk. Ten bookmakers —six on the inside, and four on the outside—plied their calling. The sum of £9,150 was passed through the machine, making a total of £19,310 for the meeting, as compared with £16,726 for the corresponding meeting last year. Hayes' b m Grand Myrella, 4yrs, 7.7 (T. Carroll) 3 Only starters. Merrie Zealand was first out and at the back of the course wa3 joined by Rangihaeta. The latter had a slight advantage at the turn for home, but Merrie Zealand came again and won by one and ahnlf lengths. Time, lmin 29sec. RACING CLUB HANDICAP, of 225sovs; 1 mile and a distance. The racehorse Rongokoko was purchased yesterday from Mr D. M. Wilkinson by Messis T. Smith, of Mangapakeha, and C. Tootell, of Masterton, for £4O.
