Fire at Invercargill.
INVERCARGILL, January 2. A fire occurred, about 11 o'clock, last night, in a block of buildings in Dee Street, occupied by Neill (herbalist), Phillips (photographer), and . Bacon (umbrella maker). The fire started in Phillips' premises, and though th Q brigade quickly got the conflagration under the studio was gutted. Phillips' stock was insured for £2SD, but he estimates his loss at £llO above this. Bacon's stock was damaged bt *vater. Neill escaped almost scathless>vJThe building was one of the few wooden ones left in the brick area. The fire is ascribed to ashes from a fire in Phillips' living room being blown out of a grate by the gale which prevailed while Phillips was out.
