Unionism is spreading throughout the dominion. Con.bines will, no, doubt, follow closely in the jtrack of triumphant unionism, and after that real social troubles in this country will J commence. One is surprised, however, that unions of agricultural I labourers have not l.een formed before, and that they have not been to the Conciliation Board for a decision. The Canterbury farm labourers have even got the assistance of the Conciliation Board, and will probably go to the-Arbitration Court in the end. When the dispute in Canterbury is settled we take it that, as a matter of course, Arbitration Court awards for farm labourers will soon become general in the whole country. We noti:e in a recent issue of the "Farmers' Union Advocate" an editorial observatijn as follow :—"The farming community will boon be able to appreciate at its full value the pledge of those rural politicians who were returned to secure justice for the farmer." So far as we know j "these rural politicians" were returned to secure justice for the farm labourer as well as for the employer of farm labour." There* is something lacking in our contemporary's satire? No one can justly quarrel with unionism—it is the demands of unionism that may be advisable; or inadvisable, and it is here that very great responsibility rests upon the Arbitration Court.
