TWO MEN SEIZE A LIONESS.
DARING EXPLOIT ON AN AFRICAN FARMi A record in li<*n catching is reported by the "Advertiser," of East Africa. Mr C. Trichardt, on-, October Sth, saw four lions on Messrs Langridgeand Taylor's ostrich farm at Athi Plains. He called Mr Langridgc;, and the two went together to try and shoot the lions. V\{hen the two men approached throe of the lions made • off, but the fourth, a half-grown lioness, lay down and waited, charging; ttoice when the men came up tn within about fifteen feet of them. The farm dogs arrived and began to worry the lioness, which crept into a patch of bush and .tried tv hide behind the projecting roots of a tree.
Messrs Langridge and Trichardt determined to try to capture her alive. They made a loop of raw hide rope, fastened it to a stick, and attempted at close quarters to pass the noose over the lioness' neck. They failed. The dogs were then set on to worry the lioness again, and while the brute defended herself loops were
passed round each of her hind legs. ■ _„The nooses were drawn tight and the P' held fast' until her other limb 3 Were bound. Then a cart was broug,ht and the lioness hoisted into it and conveyed to the farm buildings.
