OVER THE MAIN TRUNK.
By Telegraph—Press Association,
AUCKLAND, December 23,
The Hon. J. M'Gowan, who arrived at Auckland on Saturday night, via the Main Trunk railway, said he inspected the railway work closely, and he thought excellent work was being done "We hope to see connection made by the end of next year without fail," he said. "Prom to-day (Saturday) trains will run to Waimarino. This will reduce the distance between the railheads to eighteen miles. The new section between Raurimu and Waimarino is seven miles in length. Splendid progress is being made with the Hapuawhenua viaduct by the Public Works Department, and this undertaking > will be finished in very reasonable time."
