HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS.

For this season's holidays, the residents of Masterton and the surrounding districts are particuarly well catered for in the way of amuse • ments.

The Lower Valley Jockey Club will hold their annual meeting at Martinborough on Thursday and Friday, and no doubt this event will be; well patronised, as the acceptances are good all through, and the courseis in splendid order. The Manawatu Racing Meeting, at Palmerston North, on the same days should also attract a. large number of sportsmen from the district.

One of the most popular clubs in the province, viz., the AshhurstPohangina Club, will hold its annual race meeting on Saturday next. This meeting has always in the past obtained a good deal of support from the Wairarapa, and there is every reason to believe that a great many will make the trip this year. The high stakes given always attract the best class of horses to this meeting, and patrons can rely on a good day's sport. This year £1,405 is given away in stakes. The principal event will be the As ihurst Cup of 500 sovs, run over a mile and a quarter. In athletic sports there are gatherings at Carterton, Mauriceville and Mangatainoka, on Boxing Day. All these events are generally well patronised and successful, and this year should prove no exception as the arrangements in each case are well forward.

At whatever meeting one finds oneself an enjoyable day's outing should result.

Mt. Holdsworth should not lack visitors at this time' of the year. With the track in splendid order, and the accommodation house erected for the convenience of visitors, many will doubtless make the trip, which has been pronounced by previous visitors as delightful. As there are two consecutive holidays the trip to the top of the mountain and back can be made in comfort.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day the Wellington Wednesday representatives and ■ Wairarapa Thursday representatives will meet in a cricket' match on the Park, and this event should be an attraction for the stay-at-home holiday-maker. At Opaki, on Thursday, ihe Y.M.C.A. will hold its annual picnic. A good programme of events has been drawn up, and these in addition to a number of other attractions should afford ample opportunities for a pleasant outing.
