THEIR CHRISTMAS PREPARATIONS, Preparations for ths Christmas season in the business places in Masterton are now in full swing, and already shop windows present a bright and gay appearance. A firm that is always to the front in commercial enterprise is the Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association (Ltd.), who have worked their business up to such a stage of perfection that now not only in the town, but country districts as well, news of the Christmas preparations is looked forward to with the keenest interest. With the determination of eclipsing all previous efforts, the firm have, for months past, been laying the foundations for a record display, and that they have succeeded is apparent to the mostcasual observer. On entering the Grocery and Provision Department one is at once struck with its bright j and pleasing appearance and Ihe continuous "rush" of business gcing on. The arrangement of the numerous lines is .particualrly effective, everything being set in a most tempting manner that immediately arrests attention. Near the main entrance a special stand has been set up for the display of confectionery. Here '.he well-known name of Pascnll plays a prominent part, their lines being in great profusion and variety. Bon Bons, Cosaques, chocolates in fancy boxes, and every imaginable kind of sweets are to be seen. As usual the Provision Department is a special feature. Christmas hams and bacuns are always a strong point with ths firm, and this year .vill prove no exception, as in addition to a large stock, the widely known "Murepork," and "Swan" hams and bacon can be obtained. The finest delicacies, such as Peck's curried fowl, duck, lobster, Stilton cheese in jars,- gorgonzola, Taylor's old port cheese in jars, Heinz varied lines are stocked. The crystalised fruils include apricots, greengages, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, while Crosse and Blackwell's choice lines are in strong evidence. The range of fruits, which have been specially selected, embraces the finest and choicest varieties, and includes the best cooking figs, Spanish muscatels, currants, sultanas and raisins. The manufactures of Peak Frean and Sons' are too well-known to need comment, but some of their newest lines of biscuits are well worth inspection. In the matter of "Christmas hampers," the firm are again to the fore, and they make special offers to suit everyone. The ever popular Drapery Department is keenly alive to the requirements of the festive season, having made full provision for coping with the larger volume of trade, which comes at this season of the year. It is replete with nick-nacks and novelties of every description, including gloves (all lengths), hosiery, laces and sunshades. The two dressmaking rooms have been working at top speed for months, but have still room, and can take a few orders to turn out by the New Year, if specially required. I
