Thursday. Welcome rain set in at about nonr to-day, and there are signs of it cor.tinuing. Although the rain is bad!; needed harvesting will be delayed fo< a ti-ne, as most of the farmers havt just commenced to cut their oatcrops.

Chi account of the rain no gameswere played on the local bowling . green this afternoon. Christmas Day will be observed at the local Methodist Church 6n Sunday next, when there will be special singing by the choir, and appropriate ■ sermons will be preached. Bro. A. F. Pink, C.R., presided at the quarterly summoned meeting of Court Marciuis qf Nprmanby, A.0.F., held in "tha Foresters' Hall, last evening. One new member was initiated into the order. Bros. P. Molloy and T. G. Underhill were appointed delegates to the Friendly Societies' Council. The annual presentation of prizes in connection with Miss Livingston's private school for girls took place this afternoon prior to the "breaking . up" for the Christmas holidays. The I Rev. R. Young, Vicar of St. Mark's - Church, presented the prizes to the successful scholars. The following secured prizes:—Highest marks, Miss D. Deller (Mrs Deller's prize); highest marks in lower school, Miss Beth Johnston; (Mrs Cormack's prize); neatness; Miss Jcannie Johnston (Mrs Johnston's prize); examination prize, Miss Mario Lightfoot (Mrs Cormack's prize); attendance, Schelia Cormack (Mrs Johnston's prize); home lessons, Dorothy Deller; (Mrs Eagle's prize); conduct, Kathleen Deller Ist, Maud Cole 2nd (Mrs Walters' prizes): drawing, Jeannie Johnston; writing, Myrtle Toxward. A prize for the most popular girl in the school was awarded to Miss Kathleen Deller. Miss Schelia Cormack, who secured the prize for attendance, has not been absent or late one day during the year, which constitutes a record for the school.
