Willie Corlett, one of the third standard boys of the Masterton District High School, has been in the Masterton Hospital for some months, and has had several operation? performed. His class-mates very kindly thought of the poor boy, and made up their mind to send him from his class a Christmas present. Boyish intuition decided them in making their gift a good Waterbury watch, with his name engraved on it, and a chain. Three of his class-mates were deputed by the boys tp make the presentation, viz., Norman Rawson, Isaac Wybs and Leonard Corlett. These iads journeyed to the hospital yesterday afternoon, after the breakup, taking with them a handsomelybound boys' book from the headmaster, as well as the watch and chain, i for their class mates. Miss M. Clark, who ha", been pro-: moted from the pupil teacher staff of the Masterton District High School to a-> assistants!)ip at the Fernridge School, was presented with a silvermounted glas3 jar, yesterday, by the giUs of her class. scholars of the Sixth Standard ClDs, at the Masterton District High School, presented their teacher, Mr C. N. Haslam, with a handsome silver-mounted wallet pocket-book, at the break-up, yesterday, as a token ,of the good feeling the scholars.entertain towards him, and in appreciation of his hard work with them during the year. " A Press Association telegram.from Christchurch states that a cable mesage received yesterday morning, announced the death, in Paris, of Mr J. 0. Wilkin, managing-director of the Lyttelton Times-Company, and a wellknown figure in commercial and newspaper circles in Christchurch. Mr Wilkin was born in London in 1843, and arrived in Lyttelton in March, 1851. He entered the office of the Lyttelton Times in 1856, and has been associated with that journal ever since. (Mrs Dr Cook, of Masterton, is a daughter of the late Mr Wilkin.) '
