• MONTHLY .MEETING. 'Jibe.monthly imeeting of the Masterton Hospital Trustees was held yesterday morning, and was attended by Messrs A. W.. Hogs, M.P. (chairman)., J,. C. Ewington, W. Fisher, W,. Harris, M. J. ,Hr Jackson, J. B. Keith, and.J,..J. Mead. " The treasurer .reported as follows: —Receipts fort%e month, £1,268 6s 3d; dishursemwts, £663 6s lOd; halance at .last meeting, £2lB 14s sd; balance at date, £823 16s lOd. Mr J.. Lonsdale, the Wellington agent for Messrs Wilson and Stockwell, England,,wrote, stating that the ambulance brougham .for the Master- ' ton Ambulance Corp*), was expected to arrive by the Fifeshire, which was .due in Wellington about 20th inst. The Inspector-General of Hospitals wrote asking for .periodical returns from the patients' register. It was decided to furnish the information. A letter was also received from the Inspector-Gener.ial ,of Hospitals enclosing a copy of the .proposed Hospitals and Charitable institutions Act Amendment Bill, to be,introduced next session. The Bill would be considered clause by clause at,a conference of Hospital and Charitable Aid Institutions,, which it was proposed to ' hold in Wellington during the first , week in June next. Consideration ! of the matter was deferred until next meeting.. I The secretary of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board wrote -advicing that the statutory meeting of the Board would be held on March 25th next to consider the estimates for the ensuing year. The Hospital Board asked that the Trustees should eubmit their estimates of expenditure not later than March 14th next. ! A letter was received from the County Clerk enclosing a letter from . the Wellington School Commissioners j who had agreed to the request of the j Trustees to have a corner piece of , land cut off so as to allow the road j .leading to the new hospital being removed furiJftr away from the .eliff of the Waipoua River. Mr H. M, Boddington, horn secretary of the ladies' committee who arranged for the opening ceremony of the new hospital, wrote, enclosing a statement of accounts in connection therewith. This showed that the receipts had been £6O 9s 9d (donations £22 Is 6d, gates, afternoon and evening, £25 Is 6d; auction sales proceeds, £6 2s 6d; sale of tickets, £2 13s; sale of postcards, £1 16s 3d); and the expenditure £2 i3s lOd (printing and advertising, £1 7s 6d; McLeod and Young, 9s; breakages, 9s 4d; cab fares, 8s), leaving a credit balance of £57 15s lid. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the committee and to Mr H. M. Boddington. | The matron wrote urging the necessity of increasing the nursing and domestic staffs at the new hospital. - She stated that three staff nursc-s and six probationers would be required, as the fever hospital would have to be attended to as well as the general hospital, and as the wards in the new building were so far apart, two nurses would be required for night duly, instead of one, as in the old building. It was decided to ac> cede to the matron's request. j The secretary reported that the following trustees had been elected . by the various local contributing bodies:—Messrs W. Harris (Masterton County Council), M. J. H. Jackson (Featherston County Council,), ! and J. C. Ewington, W. Fisher, J. B. Keith, F. W. H. Kummer, and J. J. Mdfa by the remaining eleven bodies..' Tenders for the various supplies to the hospital for the ensuing year were accepted as follow :~ Milk, F. J. Staples; groceries, W.F.C.A.; funerals, Z. M. Hoar and Sons. Nu tenders were received for the suppy of bread or meat, but • a list of prices was submitted by the Master Bakers' and Master Butchers' Associations. The matter was left in the hands of the matron to obtain supplies from the tradesmen that served the hospital best. i With regard to the supply of drugs, 1 Messrs J. V. Gordon, E. G. Eton, and H. T. Wood, chemists, waited on the meeting and submitted a joint tender on behalf of themselves and Mr St. George. The deputation 1 asked that each local chemist should ■ b<* allowed to serve the hospital for a quarter. The tender was referred to ! the medical officers and the secetary I to deal with. ] MrJ. B. Keith was appointed the visiting trustee for the month. i Accounts amounting to £293 10s' 3d were passed for payment. The ( accounts fov the furnishing of the new hospital, amounting to £512 15s 3d, were also passed for payment, . subject to their being found correct.
