A RECENT SEIZURE.
ACTION OF BRITISH GUNBOAT. AN EXPLANATION. "BERLIN, December 17. In connection with the recent seizure oil the island of Abu Musa, Moenckhaus, senior partner in the German firm involved, declares that the action of the British gunboat Lapwing in making seizures was unjustifiable, since there w£re no coal or firearms on Abu Musa. The firm only worked oxide mines under legal contract to Moenckhaus. It is believed the incident will soon be settled amicably. (The Lapwing seized a quantity of I stores, coal, arms, and products of ! oxide mines belonging to the firm of Moenckhaus, on the gro'ind that they were contraband of war. German and English firms hold concessions from rival sheikhs, who each claim authority over the island. Some Berlin newspapers have angrily attributed the action of the" British to jealousy at the competition of German shipping companies. The island is in the Persian Gulf.)
