A conference of accredited delegates from bookmakers in the -four chief centres of the dominion .was held in Christchurch, on Saturday evening, for the purpose 'O-f framing proposals for the regulation of bookmakers under the Gaming Act, to be suDmitted to tbo Racing Conference, which will hold# special meeting to consider the subject on January -23 rd. It has been officially suggested to bookmakers that they should submit their proposals at an early date and reinforce them by a deputation to the conference. , After a long discussion at was oe- , cided to submit the following proposals to the conference: —License f ees .__(l) Clubs giving Jess than £750 a day in stakes, £5 per day inside, £2 10s outside. (2) Clubs giving £750 and less than £I,OOO, £7 10a and £3 15s. (3) Clubs giving £I,OOO and less than £1,500, £lO and £5. (4) Clubs,giving £1,500 a day and less than £2.000, £l«> and £7 10s. (5) Clubs giving £2,000 per day and over, £2O and £lO. (6) Annual licenses to be granted by the undermentioned clubs at the follow-, ing rates, to be paid in advance: — Auckland, £l5O inside, £75 outside; Wellington, £62 10s; Canterbury, £l5O and £75; Dunedin, £IOO and £SO. Each bookmaker to be allowed one clerk without additional fee; bookmakers and clerks to be registered by Metropolitan Club of the district in which they reside on payment of a fee of £1 Is, and the names to be published in an official calendar. In a case of partnership. one member of a firm will be eligible to act as clerk. Conditions of registration are to be uniform throughout New Zealand and arranged by a conference. Registered bookmakers to be allowed on courses for which they do not apply for a license on the same terms as the public. Bookmakers to be allowed a reasonable position in which to bet/and sich positi<pffto be defined by potts free from fences and other entanglements. When not engaged in carrying on calling, bookmakers to be allowed all privileges conceded to the general public. These proposals will be submitted with a view to being put into operation for one year. i
