Received December 17, 7.35 a.m. LONDON, December 17. The "Times'" Tokio correspondent says that the success of Japanese steamers trading to Bombay is wholly due to the contracting with Japanese spinning companies for the transport of raw cotton at cheap rates, and also regular supplies. SYDNEY, December 17. The low price of lead resulted in the shutting down of the Brokenhill Junction mine. Some other mines are reducing hands. LONDON, December 16. Burglars visited Barleythorpe Hall, Lord Lonsdale's Rutlandshire seat, and secured much booty, including many Jockey Club relics and Royal gifts. The burglars overlooked a packet containing £2,000 worth of property.
