CARTERTON.
(Fiom Our Own Correspondent.)
Tuesday. Last year's potatoes are now being retailed here at 4s 6d per sack. They are good eating potatoes, and the price asked for them is remarkably low. Miss Livingston's private school will break up for the Christmas vacation on Thursday afternoon, when the prizes will be presented to the scholars who have gained the high?st marks for proficiency during the year. The Rev. li. Young will present the prizes to the successful scholars at the annual picnic of the Belvedere school to be held en 20th inst. There are at present SOS scholars on the roll of the Carterton school. The average attendance since the reopening of the school, which was closed on account of the scarlet fever epidemic, is 235. Large quantities of woo! are being railed from the local railway station to Wellington for shipment to England. The majority of the sheds on the East Coast have now "cut out." The wool from the s.tations in this district is of good quality, and should fetch a good price at the London market.
