HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. BY TKr.,KCIKAI , n-"PBESS ASSOCIATION'. WELLINGTON, December 14. The High ' Commissioner cables from London, under date December 14th : The mutton market is dull, with less demand. Trade is very dissapointing there being only a hand to mouth demand. The following are the current quotations:—Canterbury, 3£d; North Island, 3gd; Australian, 2gd; River Plate, 3d. The lamb market is a shade weaker, owing to large arrivals from Australia. Canterbury is quoted at s§d; other than Canterbury, 5Jd. The beef market is steady, and the demand has been chiefly for forequarters. The quotations are as fol-low-.—Hindquarters, 3£d; forequarters, 2|d. The butter market is very firm, and there is a great demand in the market for Christmas trade, and it is estimated that the supplies will be short. The choicest New Zealand butter is quoted ac 120s, Australian, ll'/s; Argentine, 117s; Danish, 1235; Siberia, 109s. Saltless is quoted at 2s less than the above prices. Damaged butter from the s.s. "Turakina" is realising 112s. There is a better demand for cheese. White manufactured is quoted at 60s; coloured, 61s. The hemp market is quiet, and small busines is doing. The following are the current quotations:- Good fair grade on spot, £29; fair grade on spot, £2B; fair current Manilla on the spot, £29 10s; January-March shipments, good fair grade, £2B; fair grade, £27; fair current Manilla, £29.
