CRICKET.
MASTERTON v. CARTERTON. The match between Carterton and Masterton seniors on the Park Oval, on Saturday, produced an exciting finish. With six wickets down for 208 Masterton continued batting. The remaining batsmen carried the score to 224, Morris being absent. Redmond played a fine innings for 41 not out. W.' Gallon came out with the best bowling average, taking four wickets for 45 runs. Beechey took 3 for 53, while the remaining wicket was secured by Welch at a cost of G1 runs. ; Carterton did not commence their ■Second innings too well. Until W. Gallon and C. Gallon got together it appeared as if they would be disposed of cheaply. This pair added over sixty runs to the score before W. Gallon was bowled by Rawson after making 36. The innings finally closed for 147, C. Gallon being not out with 35 to his credit. Logan bowled splendidly, taking 5 wickets for 52. Rawson secured 3 wickets for 18, and Prow 1 for 30. Masterton were left with 37 runs to win. The wicket was cutting up, and batsmen after batsmen were quickly disposed of. Eight wickets were down for 33, when Perry and Isaacs became associated, and the pair scored the required number of runs. The match between Carlton B and Masterton B was concluded on the Park-Oval on Saturday# fllld resulted in an win for the former 1 by 150 riins. With 70 on the Board one wicket Carlton resumed hatting in the second innings with R. Welch (38 not out),and A. Hoar (9 not out). Dwyer's fifth baU disposed of Welch, Hoar and Williams carrtecl the score to 91 before Dwyer bowled Williams for 8. K. Welch and Hoar established a useful partnership. At 113 Nixon caught Welch off Dwyer. F.
Wiclcens and Hoar carried the score to 130 before Chapman caught Hoar off Dwyer. The retiring batsman scored 44 by good cricket. He made some fine leg and off strokes. Ihe remaining batsman carried the score to 199, the double figure scorers being Slieppard 21 (not out), Chamberlain 14, F. Wickens 11, J. Wickens 11, (including two hits for fiva each). Requiring 266 to win, Masterton sent in Claughton and Nixon. At 9 the former was smartly caught by K. Welch off R. Welch. Dwyer and Nixon brought 48 on the board before L. Welch caught Nixon behind the wickets off B. Welch. Nixon played nice cricket for his 22 runs. Hebenton retired without scoring, being bowled by B. Welch. Dwyer and Thvnne banged the bowling about and assisted by loose fielding brought ' 81 up. Then Dwyer was bowled by Hoar after making 38- Dwyer gave four chances. His score included six 3's and a 4. The remainirg batsmen took tlie score to 115. Three of the Masterton men were absent. Thynne hit freely for 33. He gave one or two chances. His total included four 3's, a 4 and a 5. lioar bowled well, taking 5 wickets for 17 runs.
