CARLTON v. CARTERTON. The Carlton and Carterton teams 'commenced a match on the Park Oval afternoon. Carterton won the toss and were first represented by Lindop and Hart. At 5 Allen bowled the former. PJjielps joined Hart, and a long partnership resulted. Despite frequent changes of the bowling 128 was up before Swan bowled Phelps with the first ball of his first ■over. Phelps gave a couple of chances, but otherwise his innings was a good one. Elliott joined Hart, but at 157 Swan, who was bowling capitally, disposed of Hart. The retiring batsman had made 52 by good cricket, but he gave two possible chances. Mainly through the - efforts of Elliott the score was taken „ tij} 211 before the last wicket fell. Elliott made 41, but his innings was marred by several chance?. Swan came out with the best bowling average, taking six wickets for 40 runs. *• Allen, too, bowled well, and secured four wickets at a cost of 40 runs. Carlton commenced their second innings disastrously, losing Swan, Bell and Boyd for a small total. The remainder of the team, with the exception of P. Star won the toss, and were first represented by Madsen and F. Richards. When the score had reached 12 Madsen. who was settling down nicely, dragged Hall on to his wickets after making four. • Thynne failed to score, being bowled by*R. Welch, and two wickets were down for 13. Isaacs oarre and went, biing caught first ball by H. Richards off Welch. Three lor 13. Edwards joined Richards, but retired with the score unaltered. Four Pfor 13. Bradbury was next in, but with the score at *l7, he was bowled by Hall, who was bowling capitally. Five for 17. Anson and Richards carried the score to 21, and then Welch bowled Richards, who had made 13 by careful play. Anson was bowled by Hall without any addition to the score. Seven for 21. L. Richards and Truscott became partners, and they put a different complexion on the game. Both played vigorous cricket, and 49 was on "the board before Richards was „ paught off Phillips, after making 15. "McLean joined Truscott, and the pair carried the score to 59 before Truscott was caught off Welch after playing a vigorous innings for 17. Dwyer joined McLean for the last wicket, but at 63 the former was out leg before to Phillips. McLean was not out with four to his credit. The W.F.C A. could do nothing with of Madsen and McLean, were all out for 47. In the second innings the Stars have lost six wickets for 76 runs.
