PERSONAL.
The friends in the VVairarapa of Mr T. M. Grant, acting chief surveyor of the Lands Office, will regret io hear of his death, which occurred at Murchison on Friday night last, as the result of a trap accident in which th.3 deceased had a leg broken and received other injuries. Mr Grant, who was a very popular officer, had published some booklets in regard to matters connected with his profession, and of recent years had made a codification of the land laws of New Zealand.. This he intended to publish on his own account, but the recent changes in policy made it necessary for him to revise the whole work. A few years ago the late Mr Grant made a survey of Lake Wairarapa in connection with a scherkio that was then mooted for the drainage of the Lake.
The death ocurred, on Friday, at his residence, at Pakaraka, of Mr Henry Williams, ex-M.L.C. The deceased' was the third son of Archdeacon Williams, one of the early missionaries. He was born in 1825. He was chairman of the Bny of Islands County Council from 1870 to 1899, and is survived by his brothers, Mr E. M. Williams, Hawkc's Bay, v > and Mr T. C. Williams, of Auckland.
Mr F. Nelson, who has for some time been on the staff of the Eketahuna branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been transferred to. Napier, for which place he left on Friday last.
Mr R. Munro, a member of the Carlton Cricket Club, who is leaving Masterton. to-day, to take un his residence in Wellington, was the recipient of a presentation from his club-mates on Saturday afternoon last. The presentation was made by Mr E. Welch, captain, on behdlf of the members of the club.
