ENGLAND v. AN AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN. BY TKLWiHAI'JI-I'IiESS ASSOCIATION. Received December 8, 8.50 p.m. BRISBANE, December 7. The cricket match between] England and an Australian Eleven was resumed, to-day, in very sultry weather. The wicket was in good condition. Young and Humphries, the not out men of the previous day, took their places at the wickets. The former received two balls from Armstrong which he was unable to play,, and in coming across to the next ball was out leg before. The HayesHumphries partnership was brief, Humphries being out Ibw to Armstrong with only a single to his credit, ilutchinys brought up the century by hooking Armstrong for 4. Immediately afterwards Hayes skied Saunders, and Hartigan took a good catch. McArtney relieved Saunders with the bail, and Cotter went on at Armstrong's end. At 129 Hardstaff faced McArtney, who clean bowled him. Soon after Hutchings passed ths half-century he was missed by Evans, and to celebrate his life he •cuocked 20 oft Cotter's over. This 1 .rought on Redgrave in the latter's ;jlace at 149. At luncheon five vickets were down for 160. On re- ,:■ uming the weather became threatening, a storm rising from the west. A 'iezen runs were added when, in ittempting a short run, Hutchings r/aa run out. Shortly after Brauncl •vas clean bowled by McCartney for \l. Rain began to fall lightly, and je umpires conferred, but decided to roceed. A few minutes later Rhodes vas clean bowled by McCartney. The run began to fall heavily, and play
was stopped for an hour. On resuming, the total was carried to 205, when Blythe tipped McCartney to McAlister in the slips, and retired. Fielder was the last man in, and with Crawford saw the total taken to 223 when the latter was dismissed by Saunders holding a fine catch at deep mid-on. The Australian Eleven began their second innings by sending in Hartigan and Gregory. The former got 7 off Fiekk-r. Gregory then touched the latter up, and Braund accepted the offer. Tarrant made three and was then caught behind the wickets. McAlister and Hartigan then came together and by solid cricket, and despite the numerous changes of bowling, passed the first century, and when stumps were drawn the total was 2 wickets for 110. MASTERTON A v. CARTERTON. The Carterton and Masterton A teams commenced a match on the Park Oval, on Saturday afternoon. Carterton batted first and made 113, of which total Smart was responsible for 56, made by good cricket. Kisseil (10 not out) was the only other double figure scorer. Logan bowled capitally, all through, taking 4 wickets for 38. Masterton A made a fine stand, and gave the fieldsmen a lively time. Some excellent batting was shown. At the call of time Masterton A had scored 208 for the loss of six wickets. Mackellar gave a splendid display for 90, and it was by far the best innings he has played in Wairarapa cricket. His strokes all round the wicket were good, and his cutting was particularly fine. i CARLTON A. v. FEATHERSTON. A match was commenced on the Sehoolground, on Saturday afternoon, between the Carlton A and Featherston E. Welch, who was elected captain of the Carlton team, vice J. Waters, resigned, won the toss and sent in Swan and Bell. At 9 Bell retired, bowled by Keys. O'Leary joined Swan, and "SG was on the board before Williams caught the former off Huv/ke. O'Leary made 15 by hard hitting. Moss joined Swan, and the pair gave the field a lively time. Moss hit with great freedom, and soon got into double figures. The pair carried the score to 8(i before Keys caught Swan off Coggins. Swan made 35 by capita I cricket. Waters joined Moss, but the bitter was almost immediately bowled by Coggins. Moss had 28 to his credit compiled in good style. His score included three 4"s. lioar joined Waters, and 97 ' was on the board when Hoar retired, bowled by Coggins. Barlow and Waters gave the bowlers considerable trouble. Both hit out very freely. Waters was very severe on Corbett, and hit four 4's off him in one over. At 104 Waters got his leg in front to Corbett. He made 36 by free cricket. His score included four 4's, five 2's and two ?>'s. Allen joined Barlow, and runs continued to come fast. Barlow was playing nice cricket and scored freely. Allen created a sensation by lifting Howlett out of ground for 6. With the score at 150 Keys bowled Barlow, who had compiled 28. Darvili and Allen carried the score to 174, when Allen was run out after hitting freely for 16. F. Welch joined Darvill, but the latter was stumped by Cundy off Everett with i
the total unaltered. E. Welch and F. Welch carried the score to 190, when the latter was bowled by Keys after making 12 by good cricket. E. Welch was not out with 2 to his credit.
Featherston then went to the wickets, but could do nothing with the bowling of Moss and Hoar, and were all out for 86. Williams played a free innings for 34 not out. Moss secured 6 wickets for 30. At one stage of thy game his analysis read—■ overs 8, wickets 5, runs 8. Hoar, too, bowled well, and got 4 wickets for 38. Featherston followed on, and when stumps weie drawn at 7.15 o'clock, had lost 5 wickets for 49. Howlett had 19 (not out") to hi 3 credit. His score included a six, hit off Waters. Scores :

A match was played on Carrington Park, Carterton, on Saturday, between teams representing the Wellington and Wairarapa schools. The game resulted in a win for the Wairarapa players by four wickets and one run. After the game the Wairarapa boys entertained the visitors at a dinner in the Rechabite Hall. The visitors will leave for their homes by this afternoon's mail train. CARLTON B v. MASTERToN B. The Carlton B and Masterton B teams commenced their match on Saturday on the Oval. Carlton put together 115 in their lirst innings, and in their second attempt have lost one wicket for 70. Masterton's only innings realised 49, no less than six batsmen being disposed of for no r'.ns. B. Welch nad R. A match was played on Saturday between the S. Matthew's and Masterton District High School teams, the former winning by 14 runs. The winners' two innings' realised 84 (40 and 44), and the School made 70 (23 and 47).
