The trial of 37 Social Democratic members of + .he second Duma and 17 soldiers and civilians for complicity in the alleged military regicidal plot has begun here. A public hearing was refused; thereupon the accused asked to be sent back to prison. They instructed their counsel to withdraw. The prosecution then proceeded in their absence.

The party has issued a statement that the accusation is baseless and a pretext to justify the alteration of the electoral law. One hundred thousand workmen and students in St. Petersburg and Moscow have struck in sympathy with the accused.
