Cr Speedy has been re elected chairman of the Castlepoint County Council for the ensuing year. Miss Neill, • daughter of Mr P. C. Neill, of Dunedin, was married in All Saints' Church. Dunedin, on Wednesday" last, to Mr Leatham, who toured New Zealand a few years ago with Warner's English cricket team. The condition of Mr Egan, who has been lying seriously ill in the Masterton Hospital for the, past week, has considerably improved At the office of Messrs W. B. Chennells and Co.. on Thursday, Mr G. W. Sellar, who is to be married next week, was presented by the firm'.* employees with a handsome silver salad bowl. Mr F. P. Welch, manager of the land department of the company, in making the presentation on behalf of the'staff, referred to the good feeling that had always existed between Mr Sellar, as one of the heads of the firm, and the staff, and wished him and his bride-elect every future prosperity. Mr J. H. Pauling, manager of the Farmers' Implement Company, also made a few appropriate remarks. The health of Mr Sellar and his prospective bride was afterwards enthusiastically drunk.

Miss E. Exell, who resigned her position with Messrs J. Graham and Co., on Saturday evening last, after six years' service as assistant accountant, was presented by the employees of the firm with a handsome gold-mounted fountain pen as a token of esteem.

At Greytown. on Thursday morning last, MisT M. Grace was married to Mr G. McGregor, of Wanganui. Miss Nixon, who hag been assist-ant-teacher at the Hamua school during the past three years, has tendered her resignation to the Welington Education Board. Mr W. Norman, who has resigned the position of fire engineer to the Masterton Fire Brigade, .vas presented by the members of the brigade, last evening, with a handsome marble clock. The prerentation was made by Captain Jenkins, who referred in terms of praise to Mr Norman's services to the brigade.
