Received December . r >, 9.40 a.m. SYDNEY, December 5. The second engineer (Svenosen) and Dunn, two victims of the explosion aboard the coasting steamer Kempsey, succumbed to their injuries. THE LITHGOW IRONWORKS. A GOVERNMENT ADVANCE. Received December 5, 9.40 a.m. SYDNEY, December 5. The Assembly, after lengthily debating and negativing Mr McGowan's motion favouring the nationalisation of the works, ratified the Government's proposal to advance £70,000 'to the Lithgow ironworks. A proviso is included to the effect that the Government shall have priority over the bank to the extent of the whole advance. PACIFIC CABLE. PROPOSED REDUCTION IN RATES. Received December 5, 9.45 a.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 5. It is understood that the Federal Government proposes to take steps to secure a reduction in Pacific cable rates, particularly for press messages.
