WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

- • The directors of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society met on Saturday afternoon, there being present :—- Messrs T. P. Lett (chairman), E. E. Chamberlain, J. B. McKenzie, D. McLachlan, A. McLeod, G. R. Sykes, A. Turner, and E. H. Waddington. Messrs 11. Wolfe and Ulic Shannon wrote accepting their appointments as handicappers for the -sawing and running events, respectively. Messrs G. Laing and D. S. Sutherland (dancing), and Messrs J. 0. McDonald and W. Ross (piping) wrote accepting their appointments as ! judges in the events named. Mr E. T. Bain, Rangiriri, wrote announcing the recent formation of a North Island Athletic Union, and requesting the co-operation of the society. Mr D. McLachlan moved that no action be taken pending further information on the subject. There was no seconder to the motion. Mr McKenzie moved that Mr Bain be informed that the society, being already affiliated with the New Zealand Athletic Union and the Wairarapa Athletic Association, fails to recognise i.he utility of a North Island Athletic Union at present, and therefore declines to affiliate with it. The motion was seconded by Mr Svkes and agreed to. "Messrs J. G. Ball, W. S. Barr, L. Cowan, J. lorns, jnr., W. M. Laing, D. J. O'Brien and Jas. Scott were elected members of the society. It was decided to instruct Mr J. R. Nicol, auctioneer, to sell t,he privileges in connection with the sports on New Year's Day on Saturday next. The secretary was instructed to convene a meeting of the ground committee on Saturday next to discuss the requirements on the Showgrounds for the sports. The secretary was also instructed to arrange for a supply of logs for the chopping and sawing competitions.
