Weston walked 1,230 miles—from Portland, Maine, to Chicago—in 595 hours. His previous record was 623 hours. The best day's walk was 95 j miles. LONDON, November 28. ' Mr A. J. Balfour, who contracted a severe cold, is progressing favourably. LONDON, November 28. The Master of the Rolls has replaced Edalji's name on the solicitors' roll. (George Ernest Edalji, a solicitor, and son of the vicar of Great Wyrley, Staffordshire, was found guilty on several charges of cattle-maiming which occurred in the neighbourhood during the summer of 1903, and sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. After his conviction other cases of maiming happened. Doubts were raisedi.as to the justice of Edalji's conviction, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle then interested himself in the matter and led an agitation for the reopening of the case. Mr Gladstone, Honfe Secretary, at first declined to interfere, but eventually a free pardon was granted to Edalji.)
