Received November 29, 10.20 a.m. MELBOURNE, November 29. A society divorce case —Wallace versus Wallace and Dr. Strong (husband's petition) —is attracting considerable attention. A letter written by the respondent to L. C. Braund, the English cricketer, and couched in affectionate terms, was read. The letter was written on the occasion of Braund's previous 'Visit to Australia.
CHINESE-MADE HELMETS. A CONTRACT CANCELLED. Received November 29, 10.20 a.m. ADELAIDE, November 29. The Deputy-Postmaster-General of South Australia, having accepted a tender for the supply of Chinesemade helmets for use by postal officials, the matter was brought up in the House of Representatives with the result, that the Po&tmasterGeneral has cancelled the contract. TROUBLE IN AN OPERA COMPANY. A SETTLEMENT. Received November 29, 10.20 a.m. MELBOURNE, November 29. A settlement has been effected betwesn Mr George Musgrove and the members of his,, opera company, on the basis of the paying of steamer fares and an arrangement with regard to .claims for arrears of salary. (Hans Mohwinkel and Karl Foller claimed steamer fares from Melbourne to' Genoa, and Foller also claimed arrears of salary. Fritz Rupp claimed for alleged breach of contract and arrears of salary.) LOCAL OPTION COURT. A HITCH. » Received November 29, 12.13 a.m. SYDNEY, November 29. A hitch has occurred in connection with the local option court. Counsel for a leading brewery firm raised the points that the reduction vote had not been carried according to the wording of the Act and if carried had not been gazetted as the Act required. The President of the court will give his decision on Monday.
