S. MATTHEW'S SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT.
The seating and standing accommodation of S. Matthew's Schoolroom were taxed to their utmost last evening, when the children's concert organised by Miss Pearson was given. The Vicar, in a few introductory remarks,, thanked Miss Pearson for her hard work in training the children under great difficulties and Miss Eva Ewington for her unremitting zeal in putting them through the exercises of the' Maypole dance, and also the children from other Sunday schools than S. Matthew's, who had volunteered help. A long programme was well rendered, and well received by an appreciative and sympathetic audience —it included piano solos by Master Ivan Gray and Miss Florence Pain, recitations by Miss Lett and Miss Lily Martin, songs by Miss V. Edwards, ii. Boyd, Eileen Ewington, Eva Ewington, Elsie Nott and Evelyn Trudgeon (,who has a remarkable voice for so young a performer); Miss E. Boyd and Miss B. Mackersey sang a nretty little duet. The boys were all good. Solos were rendered by Masters Joe Gray, Frank Richards, Clarence La Roche and Hugh Johnson, while Joe Gray also acted in a little scene with Miss Muriel La Roche, and with two, Masters Lee and Dobion, took part in a foursome. Little Miss Daphne Jones won loud plaudits with her three clever dances. The Maypcfle went well, and showed patient and careful preparation. The closing item, "'Zealandia Sash, Dance," was very pretty, and led up to an effective tableau. A few such concerts ought soon to bring a new piano to S. Matthew's Schoolroom. The piano used last night was sup ■ plied by the Wellington Piano Company, for whom Messrs McLeod and Young are the bcal agents.
