During the past few months nine traction engine p'oughing plants have been constantly at work breaking up land, chiefly virgin soil for root crops, in Ashburton County, Canterbury. On an average, weather conditions and loss of time taken into consideration, each plant turns over 90 acres a week, which shows that the land thus treated amounts to 11,340 acres.
