TE WHITI'S TANGI.

A SENSATIONAL RUMOUR

PROPHET ALLEGED TO HAVE DIED BY POISON. }IY TELEOUAI'II —PRESS ASSOCIATION. NEW PLYMOUTH, November 21. There is a large gathering at Parihaka for Te Whiti's burial ceremony. The Maoris present include Julia, New Zealand's "Grace Darling." A party of whites, including Messrs W. H. Skinner, W. J. Gray Jack (reserves agent), Rsv. J. B. Brocklehurst, Captain Young (Department of Agriculture), Captain Hood (Harbour Master), and others, expressed their grief in semi-Maori custom, much to the delight of the natives, who expressed their gratitude for the sympathy, and said the kindness wiped away the last drain of ill-feel-ing between the races. The bone uf contention, f.hey said, was buried forever.

The funeral has been delayed on account of the grave being unfinished, and will probably take place this evening.

A sensational rumour has been circulated that Te Whiti died by poison. He is said to have been very depressed, and that no one visited him on Sunday, November 17th, the usual day of the monthly meetings.
