SENSATIONAL RUNAWAY.

HORSE DASHES INTO A SHOP WINDOW. A bolt of a rather sensational character occurred in Queen Street, shortly before 10 o'clock yesterday morning. A harnessed horse owned by Mr Thos. Dwyer, which was to to have been exhibited at the Carterton show yesterday, while standing ii Dalgety and Co.'s yard in Queen Street, fright at a loaded waggon and bolted. The animal galloped along the western footpath and dashed into and broke a verandah po.«t in front of Mr J. S. J. Allpass' baker's shop. Maddened with fright and the shifting of the gear on its back, the horse increased its pace and scattered pedestrians in all directions. Passing the Central Hotel it just missed running over Mr F. C. Cooper's little daughter, who was pulled out of the animal's course in the nick of time by her father. A moment later it collided with the eleven-year-old daughter of Mr C. Perry, who was riding along on her bicycle, but I fortunately the little girl escaped any serious injury. .She was, however, severely shaken. After . galloping along the roadway for a little while, the horse took to the footpath near the Club Hotel, and in endeavouring to negotiate the corner of Church Street, it-slipped and fell into the large plate-glass window on the Church Street frontage of theWew Zealand Clothing Factory's premises, doing considerable damage to the stock. It then struggled out on to the footpath again, and raced to the bottom of Church Street, turned into Colombo Road, up Bannister Street, again found its way into Queen Street, and was finally checked at Lansdowne. The horse was badly cut about the shoulders and legs, and the wounds had to be stitched in several places.
