Mr D. E. Parton, of the local telegraph staff, has received intimation fronv the Inspector-General of Schools tflff'b he has obtained a firstclass pasinn the ordinary grade of tilegmphy and telephony. The examination was held in June last in connection with the City and Guilds of London. Mr George Oxley has been elected secretary of the Pahiatua Gun Club vice Mr Wills resigned. Mr J. Bainbridge has been appointed postmaster of the Ayerville (Dry River) post, office, which is to be opened on December Ist. On Tuesday night last the members of Court Makakahi, Ekelahuna, presented Bro. F. Wise, who has been secretary of thd lodge'for a number of years, with "a Gladstone bag, in recognition of the services he had rendered the lodge.
