The visitors were timed to leave by the Sydney express, and had only till 4.15 p.m. to pull up a big deficit. Fighting a stubborn, uphill battle they succeeded in making it a drawn match. Requiring 499 to win, an J with four wickets down for 115, th.3 out'ook was anything but promising. Hutchings and Rhodes, for the fifth wicket, added 107 in just over an hour. Hutchings played exceedingly forcible cricket, and his score included a sixer and sixteen fours. For the ninth wicket Hardstaff and Barnes contributed a century, the latter contenting himself with keeping up his wicket while Hardstaff rattled up the runs. Scores: — ENGLAND.—Second Innings.
